B.A., B.Ed., CPHR
Mike Cachia has called Fort McMurray home for more than 33 years and has no plans to leave, even as retirement approaches, given that he is now a grandfather and that all three of his children (born and raised here) have settled in Fort McMurray.
Mike has a B.A. from York University and a B.Ed. from Queens University. He also holds the designation of “CPHR” (Chartered Professional in Human Resources). He came to Fort McMurray, with his wife Lynda, in 1984, to start his career as a High School Teacher, went on to be a High School Vice-Principal and then a School Board Director of Education Technology Services. After 16 years in education, Mike changed careers and joined the oil sands industry as a Heavy Equipment Operator and then went on to work as a Human Resources Professional in a variety of roles, including leadership. He has moved back to operating heavy equipment as he winds down to an eventual retirement from the oil sands.
Over his long tenure in Fort McMurray, Mike has been an active volunteer in the community and has represented our community provincially as well. He has volunteered on various boards of directors, as an executive member, for provincial and local organizations, including: Swim Alberta, the Fort McMurray Swim Club, the Fort McMurray Running Club, the MacDonald Island Park Corporation and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo.
